How to Apply Makeup
and Feel Good!
Knowing how to apply makeup and look good (let alone feel good), especially when talking about makeup for mature women, seems to be a much-discussed topic in some forums.
To explain: recently I read an article on an Australian newspaper website which asked a very interesting question:
“Why do women wear makeup?”
The article was light and fluffy; the comments were not.
A reader commented on how women who are “Fat and fifty, wearing way too much makeup, would better spend their time exercising rather than wasting that time shovelling makeup on with a trowel!”
Phew! Tough words.
How harsh and judgemental we can be at times. There can be so many reasons why people have difficulty with their weight and ‘not exercising’ may not be one of them.
However, she wasn’t the only reader who responded along these lines. Many commented that women look better without makeup anyway.
Well, I don’t know about you but I get a tad irritated when strangers tell me how best I might look!
(if I haven’t asked for their opinion.)
Okay, I’ll calm down now.
Most of the women who responded said they wore either very little or no makeup at all. The tone of their comments suggested this was the way it should be for other women.
How easily we point the finger of blame, expecting others to live their lives by what we think is the ‘right way’.
These women have chosen not to wear makeup (or very little), for reasons known only to them. One of those reasons could be they have never taken the time to learn how to apply makeup.
Knowing how to put on makeup, so it looks good, does take time and we all have a choice as to how we spend our time.
Whilst it is true some women do apply makeup in an unflattering way and would benefit from taking makeup lessons or even watching a makeup tutorial on Youtube we must never forget it is about choice.
Life is a journey; knowing how to do makeup is a journey of life.
My belief is, no matter how naturally beautiful you are, knowing how to apply makeup will enhance that beauty. If you feel you possess no natural beauty, (and how could that be possible?) knowing how to apply makeup to highlight your best features will help create the illusion of beauty.
By the way, thank goodness beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
don’t you agree?
And thank goodness I am of an age where the opinion of others does not devastate me anymore.
(However, I always welcome constructive feedback and carefully consider its value to me.)
Now back to that question:
“Why do women wear makeup?”
My answer to that is:
1. Because I have blotchy skin on my face, wearing makeup evens out the tone of my skin, helping it to look smooth and fresh.
2. I LOVE playing with all the different colour eyeshadows and another shade of red lipstick.
3. I get a kick out of experimenting: can I copy that Egyptian eye makeup look?
4. Ooooooh … what eye makeup techniques will make my eyes look big and beautiful?
5. This is so much FUN!
I think you get the picture.
I’m like a big kid thoroughly enjoying playing with her crayons. It thrills me to find an interesting make up tip that I play with first, and then pass along to you.
Wearing my best face makeup helps me to feel my best.I don’t have to wear makeup to feel my best but love that I have the choice.
Why do you wear makeup? Why do you not wear makeup?
Come on, I dare you to share …
